SCIENCE CENTER GALA KICK-OFF SHOWCASES EXPANSION AND PRIVATE SHOWING OF TITANIC
Plans announced for April 4 benefit -- The Tech Revolution: An Evening with Steve ‘Woz’ Wozniak

(WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) As the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium prepares for its April 4 major fundraiser – “The Tech Revolution: An Evening with Steve ‘Woz’ Wozniak,” event leadership and key donors were honored recently with a special reception held at the newly expanded Science Center venue. For some, it was a first time experiencing the magic of the Center’s new aquarium and exhibit space, opened this past summer. For many, the special opportunity to visit the Center’s much lauded blockbuster Titanic exhibit was a highlight of the evening. Even the stunning fashion presentation by Gala sponsor, Saks Palm Beach, showcased beautiful silhouettes evocative of the Titanic’s glory days.

The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, formerly known as the South Florida Science Museum, recently completed a $5 million expansion and renovation, and Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is currently open in the Center’s Quantum Hall of Exploration.  With a new mission to “open every mind to science,” the Science Center now features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, an 8,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, Science on a Sphere, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall and an interactive Everglades exhibit.

“It made perfect sense to host our season kick off in the Science Center’s beautiful new space,” said Gala 2014 chairwoman, Elizabeth Gordon. “Our guests were thrilled to see the expansion and tour the exciting Titanic exhibit. It is a new era for this wonderful institution, and Steve Wozniak will be the perfect speaker at our big event. We are excited to hear from a true visionary like Woz about how swiftly-changing technology has affected our world and how it will have an impact on our future. ‘The Tech Revolution’ is timely and relevant to everyone, and to every age group.”

In addition to chairmen Elizabeth and Ben Gordon, leadership for the springtime event includes honorary chairmenJeffrey and Frances Fisher, Matthew and Helene Lorentzen, and John and Heidi Niblack.  Host committee chairmen are Howard Cox, Stuart and Alison Haft, Cater and AfsyPottash, Heath and Karly Randolph, and Eric and Lucinda Stonestrom. The event’s stewardship council is chaired by Dale Hedrick and Harvey Oyer. Grand Benefactors include Mr. and Mrs. Lew Crampton, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Lorentzen, and Mr. and Mrs. John Niblack. Corporate sponsors are PNC Private Bank and Saks Fifth Avenue Palm Beach. The media sponsor is Palm Beach Illustrated.

A Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for more than 30 years, Steve Wozniak has helped shape the computing industry with his design of Apple’s first line of products – the Apple I and II, and influenced the popular Macintosh. In 1976 Wozniak and Steve Jobs founded Apple Computer, Inc., with Wozniak’s Apple I personal computer. Currently he serves as chief scientist for Fusion-io and is a published author.
