SOUTH FLORIDA SCIENCE CENTER ANNOUNCES THIRD ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC

Golfers are invited to swing for science at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club

(West Palm Beach, Fla.)Science will be in full swing at the upcoming South Florida Science Center and Aquarium’s third annual Golf Classic.  Hosted by the Science Center’s Young Professional Organization and co-chaired by Heath Randolph and Val Perez, the tournament is challenging twosomes with a “Better Ball” competition.  Taking place on October 27, 2014 at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club, the action-packed day will include lunch, a shot-gun start, cocktail reception and awards presentation.

“I’m honored to be chairing this event for the third consecutive year,” said Randolph. “And thrilled to welcome the support of my co-chair, Val Perez.  Val and I are really looking forward to the new ‘Better Ball’ format, as we know it will create opportunities for competitive fun – all for a great cause.  It is through events such as this that the Science Center can continue to ‘open every mind to science,’ creating new programming, such as GEMS (Girls Excelling in Math and Science) Club and ‘Science on Tap.’”

The South Florida Science Center’s Young Professionals Organization is a dynamic group of individuals dedicated to engaging the community in support of science, furthering the Center’s educational mission through service and community outreach.  Members receive the inside scoop on what’s new at the Center, invitations to VIP previews of new exhibits and shows, as well as opportunities to attend social and networking events throughout the year. 

Golf Classic committee members include: , Carolyn Broadhead, Scott Butler, John Clark Bills, Lew Crampton, Russ Evans, Matthew Ferguson, Rob Ford, Page Lee Hufty, Jeremy Johnson, Max Macon, Mack Perry, Grier Pressly, Kevin Probel, Cater Randolph, Brian Ray, Judd Rowe, Rebecca Seelig, Jeff Smith and Rett Waldman.

The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, recently named the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches’ nonprofit of the year, features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, an 8,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall and an interactive Everglades exhibit. Afterlife: Tombs & Treasures of Ancient Egypt, the Science Center’s next traveling exhibition, will open to the public on October 11, 2014, running through April 18, 2015.  In true Science Center style, the highly anticipated blockbuster exhibition will have interactive components, making it feel like guests have taken a trip to Egypt to explore ancient artifacts and tombs.
