The ASCEND (Advancing STEM-Community Engagement through Neuroscience Discovery) NeuroExplorers program is a semester-long learning opportunity in Jupiter for kids grades 6-8 made possible by the Florida Atlantic University Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute.
Led by professional neuroscientists and their trainees and using cutting-edge educational tools, including hands-on virtual and augmented reality applications, kids will be provided weekly neuroscience lessons and activities in Jupiter. In addition, kids will have the opportunity to learn outside the dedicated classes through virtual resources, including podcasts and webcasts featuring recent neuroscience discoveries, brain games, and 360o science videos. Kids will learn about neuroscience, with lessons building from cells to neural networks to brain disorders. Attendees will graduate as Jr. Neuroscientists and tour a lab where they will meet working scientists!
The FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute ASCEND program makes health its top priority, and we strive to ensure the health and well-being of our participants. We will monitor the COVID-19 reports closely throughout the semester and make changes to the program accordingly.
Who can join: Middle school students ONLY
Program cost: $50 per registrant for the entire semester.
Important note: NeuroExplorers is continuous throughout the semester to create continuity and a community of learners and doers. Students are required to attend all sessions to graduate in May.
Location: In-person at FAU Stiles Nicholson Brain Institute: 5353 Parkside Drive, MC-22, Jupiter, FL 33458.
Upcoming Sessions: Thursdays from 4:30-6:00pm beginning March 28th, 2024. Graduation is May 9th.
