The Future Is Taking Shape

The transformation of the Cox Science Center and Aquarium is moving from vision to reality. What began as site preparation, utility work, and foundation planning is now rising from the ground.

Expansion at a glance:

  • Expanding attendance from 500,000 to 1,000,000, in-person and virtually An aquarium exhibit with visitors observing marine life, including fish and a diver, in a dimly lit space.
  • School programs will grow from 150,000 students to 350,000, with 70% being minority population and 50% Title 1 students 
  • The Kenneth C. Griffin Aquarium will expand from 10,000 gallons to 130,000 gallons of salt and freshwater tanks  

Key Features:

  • Expanded Aquarium: One of Florida’s largest aquariums. 
  • 75,000 sq-ft Science Pavilion: A new, visible landmark from I-95 which will hold more state-of-the-art exhibit spaces 
  • Next Generation STEM Learning Center: Includes immersive learning labs and classrooms. 
  • Digital Arts Studio: Training for future tech jobs.
